Max Mason (trail name “Happy”) had never achieved any endurance related success prior to his Appalachian Trail adventure. This unlikely thruhiker’s secret was an interest in motivation and how people can overcome self-limiting beliefs. Becoming a successful thruhiker transformed his life. He went on to successfully stand for public office, run marathons, and completed another ultradistance adventure by cycling across Australia (1888 miles), through the desert. Max chose to write his narrative in simple poetry; in doing so, he has followed in the footsteps of epic storytellers throughout the ages. Happy Hiker is his first publication.
Max lives in Melbourne, Australia with his wife Helen. They have a son – Mungo – who is a lawyer and professional rugby player, who plays for Washington DC based Old Glory.
