Hi there and welcome to my website Max Mason Author.

My name is Max Mason and I recently published ‘Happy Hiker: The Epic Journey of an Unlikely Appalachian Trail Thru-hiker’, after the 2015 experience that transformed my life.

My mission is to inspire and entertain readers through my own and others’ epic journeys.

In 2019 I embarked on another ultra-distance adventure cycling across Australia and hope to go on many more. I love writing books and epic poetry about my journeys, and hope you will join me.

Happy Hiker is the absorbing story of an ordinary person who achieves an extraordinary goal. It shows that everyday people can challenge their self-limiting beliefs and accomplish their biggest dreams.

Thru-hiking the 2189-mile Appalachian Trail (AT) is one of the world’s most gruelling adventures. Hiking a half-marathon a day, six days a week, for six months equals 150 half-marathons – it’s tough!

You will be captivated by Max’s daily struggles, triumphs and experiences. 180 photographs capture the beauty of the Trail and daily thru-hiker life. It is an absorbing account for anyone who loves reading about real-life outdoor adventures, and real characters.

Happy Hiker includes a narrative section with 25 steps to successful thru-hiking and an epic poem describing the journey. The poem is an easy to read epic detailing each day of the 178-day hike. Each day is a succinct glimpse of the inner and outer world Max experiences.

 Max recounts precisely what it’s like to endure a 2000+ mile walk along the physical and mental rollercoaster known as the Appalachian Trail. He captured the highs, lows, trials, tribulations and characters he met along the way in poetic form. I thru-hiked the trail all over again.
